I have been listening to more King Gizzard this year, really diving into their discography, and I started right as Flight b741 was released. This album feels really fun, has great guitar tones and even vocal harmonies. It seems to draw inspiration heavily from 1970’s rock, mainly blues-rock and boogie.
Aside from the obvious 70’s influence here there’s also a bit (or a lot of) of an aviation theme which adds even more to the charm of the album and provides a nice background for the music while also, I suspect, helping the band come with ideas for songs, in a similar fashion as the Beatles did with Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Heart Club Band, by immersing themselves in different roles and characters. And speaking of the Beatles, there seems to be a similar musical inspiration from them as well in some of the songs.
Overall this is just a really good rocking out album. It’s not reinventing the wheel but the musicianship is there, the riffs are great and original, the energy is high and it’s really just a great and fun rock album.
